Is it just me...

27/5/2014

Is it just me or is time going so fast these days if you
sit for a minute you are scared you will miss a whole week?!
Is it because we are wearing so many ‘hats’ and juggling
too many ‘balls’ of commitment? Or am I just getting old and forgetting what I was doing and being distracted by something else and starting that along the way?
Well it has been days, weeks,no months since my last post- so much for posting weekly!
Nevermind- we are only human afer all!!!
Anyway,

If there is a such a thing as an 'IT' colour at the moment 'it' would be indigo. Many have written about it (and I am no exception! )Indigo is in catalogues, on the front of magazines, on blogs and in the shops and it is now in my house!
A beautiful hue, indigo is warming, relaxed and inviting. It brings out feelings of comfort as we remember our favourite, most worn pair of jeans, memories of travels as it reflects the colour of the deepest ocean and a beautiful sense of time as it is often teamed with tie-dye techniques.

Think blueberries, deep blue hydrangeas, denim and Japanese textiles…
and here is my INDIGO CRUSH- new cushions from Freedom!

Easter Decorating.

Anyone in my house will tell you I go a little crazy when
it comes to decorating for Christmas and Easter!
I just can’t help changing things around a bit… and what
a great excuse to decorate the table when there is a big family dinner about to happen!
So this year, inspired by all the moss around due to the
rain, I went with an ‘eggs in moss’ theme!
 Sounds yuck?!
Well take a look and see what you think!
The best part is it’s edible, the down side is…
well there may not be anything there when it comes to the
 Easter weekend!
Picture
I started with a piece of brown paper which is going to be the base of the decoration so it can be moved around the table if I need to. It will also keep the moss from getting carried away!
I crumpled it up to give it some movement and texture.Next I planned what I was going to include in the display.
I have a new basket from Note To Self  (yes, one can not go into that shop without coming out with something!), some moss rocks from a florist which I had used before and a beautiful nest with some good fake eggs picked up at Bed Bath'n' Table who always have great cheap decos at Easter and Christmas
(hint:the closer you get to the date, the cheaper the decos get!)
for a touch of vintage, I pulled out a few pictures from an old children's book which had chickens on them.
Now building a display takes a little while...a bit of trial and error and a bit of thinking about the journey
your eye is going to take- much like a large display
would. You need a focal point and some joyful surprises to find along the way.
Also, being on a table as the centrepiece, the display needs to have something interesting to see from all positions. So take your time and move around as you go to check how it looks on the other side and from other directions...

Then a few final touches with candles and feathers(another obsession!) before the last part-the edible part - CHOCOLATE!

Picture
Now these are th BEST because they are beautiful colours and they have no wrapper so there will be no foil left all over the place! But they are hard to get, so any of your favourites will do and a variety of sizes is great too! Scatter the chockies around, hiding them in and out so they don't all go in the first day!

And for good measure, there are a few other bits around the place too!
Each year the eggs we made when I was a child come out.
Memories...

They are so fragile and very beautiful so I will place them under a dome this year in the hall,

Picture
And my little display at the sink is getting a touch of Easter too....
So, Happy Easter Everyone!
Enjoy and spread the love which you have been shown through this holiday weekend x

Autumn warmth...

2/4/2014

It’s time to get out the rugs for the sofa and throw an extra layer on the bed- not quite doona weather yet, just that in between time where the days are still warm but come 6.30pm, you get that ‘I want to put my jarmies on’ feeling. The leaves are not really changing yet- but we know its coming, we can feel it in the air. The days are getting shorter and it is less appealing to drive the kids around in the afternoon for activities or to be popping out to a class or meeting after dinner.

Feeling flat, tired and ready for a holiday? Well you’re in luck because Easter is coming and next week I will be decorating my table for Easter on the blog so stay tuned for some inspiration…but for now, shake off those nearly-holiday- blues with a quick house treat;

That’s right, buy your house a present!

Make it a tiny bit more exciting to be home-'cause you are going to want to snuggle in sooner and linger longer as the days shorten through April.

Grab a new throw for the sofa or a fresh pair of pillow cases to update your bed!

Collect some pods, leaves or feathers to decorate with and buy a new candle with a warming scent like ‘fig’. Better still, light those ones you already have...
(you know, those ones you get for presents and never use!)
Each night take some time to light them and place them around the house to add a beautiful homely feeling to your rooms.

If you are looking for some on trend Autumn colours try INDIGO and COPPER finishes. The warm combination of these two really say 'stay a while...'
                                            (More on those to come)
So, off you go...show your home you love it!

Over the coming weeks, I will be attempting to conquer the art of blogging!
It has been an aim of mine, for a good nine months now, to do a regular
blog post; but I had trouble actually sitting down to do it… and when I did (sit down) I really struggled to think of how or what to write about!
Of course there came along every now and then something interesting that I had done(well in my mind it was interesting!) that I wanted to share, but these major, note worthy events were so few and far between it was not anything which would grab the attention of a regular passer by and even if it did happen to catch your attention, the next week was a completely normal, ‘nothing to see here’ kind of week and well…
there was nothing to see here … literally!

So, dear friends who bother to click that button, here I go
!
Wish me luck as I begin a (hopefully) weekly post
(is that too much of a commitment?!?!- see I’m freaking out already!)

My aim and hope is that it brings you inspiring things to do, to see and to think about as I am inspired by the things around me.

pro for a week...

Ever wondered what goes on in a photo shoot?
How do they get that French country kitchen look with morning sunlight? or the perfect balance of cushions on a bed next to an amazing bedside with a fantastically exotic pendent hanging at just the right length above? And all the while being inside a studio in limited space!!
Well I had the chance to watch it all happen last week and
then to have a go at creating it myself!
At college (ISCD) last year we were given a brief to make a scene with
some cushions and then submit it to Temple and Webster for judging.
It was a new assignment in the Interior Styling program.
My entry was a success!

Picture
...and so began my stylist for a week journey!
Here are a few snaps from the old iphone of the studio process.

So , that's it- it's all fake, fake , fake! Fake wall, fake salad, fake table!
But heaps of fun to do and see how differently things need to be set up for a camera shoot compared to real life.
Thanks to all at Temple and Webster for having me ... x
Special thanks to the lovely
Jessica Bellef for letting me be your shadow x
Heres a link to their blog with a feature on my week.

Picture-before and after-
From time to time you add a piece of furniture to a room, or sometimes it is a great feeling just to move an existing piece to a new spot in the house. But even easier(as you don't need the man power or their permission!)is transforming a piece with a new display!
Adding to collections and bringing new bits and pieces together brings a sense of style and personality to your home-

The Wedding Planner...

I have just completed my first big event- a wedding for a lovely friends daughter. The daughter lived in Norway and we met last January to do some initial planning and share thoughts and ideas and then we had the year to create! With help from tireless workers we transformed our church building into a vintage reception area with quirky details and sweet vignettes, thousands of fairy lights and metres of beautiful bunting made by the bride and her mother. The ceremony was held on the lawn with an aisle of rose petals and a soda stand to refresh the guests as they gathered under the cool of the trees. It was a gorgeous day and a very happy occasion to be a part of.

While pruning today, my husband Dave found this beautiful nest!
I'm so excited and can't wait to find it a new home amongst my treasures... the detail is amazing- that little bird had been collecting a wonderful assortment of fibres, sticks and vines, all in order and delicately woven around and around to form the nest.
Thanks Dave for saving it for me!
